TMS Therapy (Transcranial Magnetic Therapy)

NeuroStar TMS Therapy was approved in 2008 by the FDA for the treatment of patients suffering from depression who have not achieved satisfactory improvement from antidepressant treatment. Since 2008, several other TMS systems have become FDA approved, including the Magstim Rapid2. TMS Therapy is a non-invasive outpatient procedure performed in our office.

The initial course consists of 30-36 treatments administered 5 times a week for 6 or more weeks.

We have several machines available to accommodate patient comfort and scheduling needs. For more information, click here.

Qb Test

QbTest is a computer-based test that combines a test of attention and impulsivity with a movement analysis based on an infrared measurement system. The test is taken in our office and ic completed in less than 30 minutes.

When a patient's test results are compared with the results of other people of the same age range and sex who don't have ADHD, Dr. St John is able to objectively quantify the severity of a patient's symptoms. Together with a history and patient completed questionnaires, the QbTest allows Dr. St John to make more reliable new diagnoses of ADD/ADHD.

The test is repeated once treatment is started. Comparison of the original or baseline QbTest results against repeated testing result and control data results ensures that patients receives optimal treatment as fast as possible.

Psychotropic Genetic Testing

Often referred to as personalized medicine, genetic testing assays look at genes that affect your body's ability to respond to medication. Genetic testing can ideally be utilized to reduce the time needed to find the right treatment for you as compared to the traditional trial and error method. The test includes 2 types of genes: genes that indicate what effect a drug or drug class will have on the body and genes that indicate what effect your body will have on the drug (i.e. they determine how fast your body metabolizes the drug). The faster or slower your body processes a drug determines the dose that will be needed to be effective and safe. A saliva sample is collected by swabbing the inside of your check with a cotton swab in the office. The sample is sent to the lab and results are typically available in 2-3 weeks.

Ketamine Infusions

Dr. St John partnered in early 2017 with Neuragain to provide outpatient ketamine infusion services to further improve the lives of patients suffering from treatment-resistant depression. Ketamine therapy is typically administered in a series of 6 IV infusions (each lasting about 40 minutes) over a period of about 12 days. Ketamine infusions can provide rapid relief of severe depression symptoms during the time it takes for antidepressant medications to begin working. For more information, click here.
